Don't Be the Victim of E-Mail Phishing!
Important information on one of today's most popular fraud scams!
Increases in reports of consumers receiving
unsolicited e-mails, often called "SPAM," many times include
scams the government calls "phishing." The most targeted
industry for phishing attacks is financial services.
While e-commerce is very safe, members should be
careful about disclosing personal information over the
Internet.
Phishing is the act of sending an e-mail to a
consumer falsely claiming to be an established legitimate
enterprise in an attempt to scam the recipient into
surrendering private information for the use of identity
theft. In most cases, the e-mail directs
the recipient to visit a fraudulent web site to provide
personal information such as passwords, credit card numbers,
social security, and bank account numbers.
Hawaii Schools Federal Credit Union will NEVER
seek such information unless you have initiated the
transaction.
Several steps can
be taken to protect your personal information.
- When using a website to enter personal information, be
sure you are using the web address that is intended.
- Be cautious of any email that includes requests for
personal information.
- Do not use links in any unsolicited emails to get to a
web page.
If you suspect you are a victim of an email
phishing scam, contact Hawaii Schools FCU immediately by
